Wish we had a 1/4 mile track close by. All we have are 1/8 mile tracks...

Default Tap launching

It is not bad to tap launch the ralliart right? of course nobody would do it THAT often, but it would just be the same as having the car in drive with the brakes on, since the clutch is not engaged, the car doesn't lurch forward? unless there is harm launching your car at 4-5 rpm's

I've never done the tap method. I've only rev'd too three grand and went haha
Is anyone actually getting better 60fts with tapping? I've launched my car hundreds of times and never had a problem.

Ok, so first time at the drag strip with this car....

Caprock motorsports / penwell raceway... about 3000 ft elevation, half a tank of crappy pump gas, 72 degree temp.

I have mods listed in my signature, not new to drag racing by any means, but first time tracking this car.

see below timeslip....I honestly expected much better, like a low 13 sec run.. I only got one run this night, traction control off, slight wheel spin, nothing major, sport mode, automatic, tap launch..... why soooooo slow??? any ideas??

Chris

A lot of things to do. You could almost make a list.
Start with the obvious stuff like taking out all unneeded crap out of car removing spare tire ,jack etc AKA shed as much weight as you can.

Run either a higher octane fuel or fuel that your car was tuned on. Have only about 1/4 tank of gas to once again shed weight.

Try doing runs at night when air is cooler which on a turbo car makes a difference. You will get more runs in at night most places because track is cooler less sticky and rear wheel drive cars wont launch as well so they prefer mid afternoon. Your AWD so really doesn't make a difference to you.

But the biggest thing you can to is learn about your car and how to launch it and practice. Only by doing it over and over will you see how it reacts and when you gets your slip on that particular run see the results.

My only advice would be to run about a foot or more left or right of the main tire grooves in the track as this will slow you down some.

After going out a half dozen times or so getting in about 10 -20 runs each time and compare your times slips to your first one I bet you will be close to a half second faster.

Also, 3,000 feet! That's around 25 bhp loss at 250 bhp.

My first night out, first time drag racing, I got ~14.17 average across three runs bone stock no mods, no tune, 3/4 tank of gas, spare kit and floor mats and all. I was pleasantly surprised with the car!
