i use the shifter more than the paddlea but when i do use the paddles i feel likes its a more responsive and quicker shift than actually using the shifter. the paddles are actually modeled after indy cars that use the paddles on there cars now instead of an actual shifter loke nascar because it has better response time and doesnt require your hands ever leaving the steering wheel

It's all in your head, the paddles and shifter have the same timing. You're making two points of contact electronically, but because you have a longer movement with the shifter, it makes you think that it's slow.

Mostly the stick but not because of lag or any issue with the paddles. It's just habit for anyone that has driven a manual shift vehicle most of their life. As mentioned previously, the best setup (road car) for paddle shifters is fixed to the steering column. This way the driver always knows where they are, even in a hairpin or U-turn. The only time the paddles are more effective, fixed to the wheel, is in an application like F1 where the steering ratio is incredibly tight and lock to lock isn't even a full turn of the wheel. Oddly enough, I still go through periods where I'll drive 100% Auto for a couple days, then back to100% Manual for a month. Nice to have the option.

This is my first non-manual car too. But I actually got used to only using my paddles. I started using just the shifter, then I started using the paddle to downshift and shifter to upshift, and now I'm just using paddles.
They're awesome especially when you're cruising through the canyons and doing some spirited driving... Although, I got really good at toe-heal driving

I drive AutoCross and find the paddles useless. The key to speed is being smooth and not removing your hands from '10/2'. I tried using the gear lever (as it feel more natural) and was slower in my times. The SST does a spectacular job of down shifting at the right times, and even holding a gear at the top end.

I completely agree. The AutoSport and even AutoNormal modes are uncanny when selecting the correct gear upon corner approach. You don't even have to think about it. The only time the Auto was (not anymore) burdensome for me was in parking lot driving. Other than that, no issues. I think it takes just as much learning of this 'Auto' mode as it does to learn the 'Manual' mode, to become proficient in using the SST. It truly is a different transmission from anything else i have ever driven (SMG, Tiptronic etc). I LOVE the SST. Yes, even more than a straight manual with foot clutch.
