Well upon reading some of the posts out here....what is the deal with the RA timing chain? I'm a little bit apprenhensive about getting a RA, the timing chain should last for a long time the timing belt should be the type to monitor. Currently I got a TSX and has a timing chain also but my service rep said there is no maintenance schedule for it...I got 93k miles on it.

In the end, I think there were just a bad batch of timing chains on the previous years, 2009 and 2010. There haven't been any major reports of 2011's with bad chains... yet.

I think an oil with a higher ZDDP might help with this issue

I'm currently using LubroMoly 5W40, which is also high in ZDDP:

Mobil 1 has several blends with higher ZDDP. I used the 15W50 blend in my old car, but it was a large diplacement V8. There may be a Mobil 1 blend with 5W30 or 5W40 with higher ZDDP, but I haven't found it so far:

I have the very first batch of the 09 Ralliarts and I had to get my timing chain replaced (along with a huge list of associated parts) when I only had 32k miles on it. Covered under warranty tho but I hope Mitsubishi didnt replace the chain with the same old design (if they had improved the part for the 2011 models) because I dont wnat to have to deal with it again...

Damn... four model years later we FINALLY get a different timing chain for these engines. Unbelievable.

It goes without saying the chain revision isn't just to change the colour of the links

Would have been nice if there was a note on there to say what issues the new chain addresses - ie stretching, etc.

If the chain stretch is monitored by the ECM, resetting the tune or disconnecting the battery wont erase the information the car has on the timing chain?

Also, we want the bottom chain in the pic:

Looks like any models of evo X or ralliarts before 2011 have the shitty timing chain and the 2011+ models have the double linked. argh that's another thing ill have to change later..
